Tyler McCoy
Tyler was born and raised in Grove City, Ohio. After graduating high school, he served four honorable years in the United States Marine Corps. After the Marine Corps, Tyler graduated from the Ohio State University. He went on to graduate Summa Cum Laude from Capital University Law School in 2019, where he served two years on Law Review and was a member of the Criminal Law Association. His article The Need for Higher Punishment: Lock Up The Real Drug Dealers was published in the Gonzaga Law Review in 2018. Since passing the Ohio Bar Exam in 2019, Tyler has been licensed to practice law in Ohio state courts and the United States District Court for the Southern District of Ohio.
After working for the Franklin County Public Defender’s Office and Defense Attorney Samuel H. Shamansky in law school, Tyler realized that he wanted to be a prosecutor. While a prosecutor for the City of Columbus, he prosecuted thousands of misdemeanors and was the OVI Liaison with the Columbus Division of Police for the Columbus City Attorney’s Office. He has also been an Assistant Police Legal Advisor for the Columbus Division of Police. Tyler formerly was a prosecutor in the felony Vehicular Crimes/ OVI Unit as well as the Gun Unit for the Franklin County Prosecutor's Office. He is currently an Assistant Prosecuting Attorney for the Licking County Prosecutor's Office.
Tyler has a keen interest in vehicular crimes and OVI law, having received over 100 hours of training involving the detection and prosecution of drug/alcohol-impaired drivers which includes but is limited to attending the National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration (NHTSA) Basic and Advanced Standardized Field Sobriety Testing Programs, Advanced Roadside Impaired Driving Enforcement (A.R.I.D.E), Prosecuting the Drugged Driver, DUI Cannabis: Making the Case. He has taught two CLE’s on drugged driving related issues.
